The Indian Chest Society, formed in
the year 1980 at Mumbai, is a front
line organization of qualified Chest
Physicians of the country. The
society held its 1st
National Congress on Respiratory
Diseases (NCRD) in September,
1981.Since then society has come a
long way and now has over 1500
Chest Physicians as members on
its roll.
I am happy to inform you that Indian Chest Society is conducting the Training Programme for Pulmonary Technicians in Spirometry at six centers across the country, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Jaipur, Lucknow and Nagpur in the month of January and February for last 3 years. So far society has trained more than 600 candidates as spirometry technicians successfully, and given them a certificate of competence. Society has planned to continue and enhance this important activity more vigorously by adding more centers from this year. This is a unique service which Indian Chest Society is providing for upbringing technical know how in the specialty of Respiratory Medicine.
Indian Chest Society is determined to act as a promoter for the academic and training activities in the field of respiratory medicine in the country. Last year we have started training course in Respiratory Critical Care at Chennai, which attended by large number of Chest Physicians and Postgraduates and every one of them have appreciated it. I am pleased to inform you that this year workshop in the respiratory critical are going to be conducted at Chennai and Mumbai in the month of October and November, 2011. A certificate of training will be given to all the physicians and postgraduates who are going to attend the workshop. We are determined to further extend this training programme for the benefit of the physicians in different parts of the country.
I wish to inform you that the official journal of Indian Chest Society, Lung India is being published with new flavor and enriched scientific content regularly under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Virendra Singh, Jaipur. I hope that journal will continue to fulfill the needs of the chest physicians with more enhanced scientific content. I am happy to inform you that the Lung India is already indexed in Indian Medlar and Pubmed. Its all previous issues are also available on Pubmed and it is all set to be indexed in index medicus.
I am further delighted to inform you that Indian Chest Society is continuously increasing its international presence and has marked its presence at almost all the important international conferences including American College of Chest Physicians at Vancouver, Canada in the month of October-November, 2010, Asia Pacific Congress on Respirology at Manila in the month of November 2010, American Thoracic Society Congress at Denver in the month of May, 2011 and European Respiratory Society at Amsterdam in the month of September, 2011 by putting up a booth. The booth of the society at all international conferences is acting as a meeting point for all national and international delegates including NRI Indians. A flag of tri-colour at the booth gives moment of pride to all the delegates of Indian origin. I am happy to inform you that many international delegates have joined the Indian Chest Society at these booths.
The society is beaming with new hope of rising to never before heights and It is my strong belief that with the cooperation and contribution of all members, Indian Chest Society will soon be a force to reckon with, having stakes in decision making and providing strong support for quality work in the field of Respiratory medicine.
